Weak Eye Muscles

Blessed are those who have eyes to see the beauty of nature. However, in this digital era, eyes are one of the most important sensory organs that suffer to a great extent. With excessive use of mobile phones and laptops, problems like digital eye strain, weak eyesight, blurred vision, eye fatigue, weak eye muscles, dry eyes, and irritability have spread like wildfire.

Long working hours on laptops, scrolling through social media without even blinking eyes, and binge-watching your favorite web series on Netflix, everything contributes to weak eye muscles. It is no exaggeration to say that we are truly addicted to gadgets, and the bad news is that our vision is in jeopardy. Since you cannot shut your doors to the digital world and stop working on laptops, you can at least take out a few minutes from your busy schedule to take care of your eyes.

Here are 10 exercises that will indeed help you strengthen eye muscles. By doing these easy-peasy exercises every day, you can relieve strain and burning sensation, which is not rare to experience these days. Let’s get started without much ado!

Roll your eye

To do this effective exercise, you just need 2 to 3 minutes of your life. Sit straight and keep your neck and back straight to look ahead. Now, see towards the right-hand side and then slowly move your eyes towards the ceiling without moving your neck.  Next, roll your eyes down towards the floor and see to your left. Repeat this 10 times to maintain the strength of your eye muscles. For better results, perform it in the clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.

Blink More

How many times did you blink while reading this article? Many a time, unintentionally we keep staring at computer screens and do not blink our eyes that often. But if we blink more, it prevents dryness and keeps our eyes lubricated. If you often tend to suffer from itchy and tired eyes, then blink them rapidly for a few seconds, and you will surely get immediate relief.

Cover with Palm

You can do this exercise anywhere to relax your eye muscles instantly. Just stand and rub your palms against each other unless they are warm enough to soothe your eyes. Close your eyes and place your palms on both the eyelids. Just the warmth of palm will relax your strained and tired eyes.

Move Your Finger

Sit comfortably on a chair, and keep your neck and back straight. Now, focus on the tip of your finger and bring it closer to your eyes, and then extend your hand.  Repeat the process 10 times, which will not take more than 2 minutes.

Give Yourself an Eye Massage

This exercise can be done to relax your tired eyes. First things first, sit straight and close your eyes. Place your index and middle fingers gently on the eyelids and move the right fingers in anti-clockwise and left fingers in the clockwise direction. Don’t press the fingers hard. Just the circular motion will help you alleviate the eye strain. Hard to believe? Try it right away!

Focus Shift

This exercise works wonders for strengthening the weak eye muscles. To begin with, take any nearby object and focus on it for 5 seconds. Now, move on to any distant object and focus on it for another 5 seconds. This sudden shifting in focus gives strength to the eye muscles and refreshes them.

Keep in mind the ‘20-20-20 Rule’

Working for long hours on the laptop might bring you appraisals, but it makes you lose something extremely valuable. The effects of looking at screens for stretched hours are fatal. We understand you cannot avoid working, but you can always follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, blink your eyes rapidly for 20 times and take a break from your work for 20 seconds. By doing this, you will not only relieve the pressure from your eyes but also refresh your mind.

Extreme Glance

Sit comfortably and keep your head straight. Now, try to move your eyeballs by looking to your extreme left without moving your neck. Hold your vision for 4 seconds and again look in front. Now, look to your right side only by moving your eyes while keeping the neck and back straight. Again, hold your vision for a few seconds. Make sure you don’t do it in public as you might scare people. ( wink*)

Imaginative Writing

Look at a plain wall and imagine you are writing something on it with your eyes. When you perform it, your eye muscles move rapidly in different directions, which makes them strong. Do it every day for 20 seconds and see the difference!

Eye Press

Keep digital eye strain at bay with this exercise. Sit comfortably on a couch or chair and close your eyes. Place two fingers on each eyelid and press very gently for a few seconds. Release the pressure and repeat the process. Do it for a minute and you will tag it as the quickest way to feel peace and tranquility.

Final words

The exercises mentioned above are definitely not as difficult as nailing jelly to a wall. They are simple to do and easy to remember. Thus, say goodbye to excuses and take out a few minutes to do them on a regular basis. Your eyes are God’s greatest gift, and exercise is the least you can do to protect them from the harmful effects of digital devices. Keep them blinking, just like I did.
